Shuddh Desi Romance

Shuddh Desi Romance’ is a Hindi Romantic comedy movie directed by Maneesh Sharma and written by Jaideep Sahni. Jaideep Sahni had earlier written stories for ‘Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year’ and ‘Chak De India’. That of course guarantees a strong and unconventional plot. The movie is produced by Aditya Chopra and the lead casts of the movie are Sushant Singh Rajput as Raghu, Parineeti Chopra as Gayatri and newbie Vaani Kapoor as Tara. The movie is released on 6thSeptember.

Well, the movie takes yash raj films’ romantic stories to a different level. It’s a girl-boy-girl love triangle. The base is the same as all Bollywood love triangles have but it is shown in a new setting. No-no, it doesn’t have some exotic Alps or Switzerland location. It is cast in our very own pink city of Jaipur. The story is desi and the characters are Shuddh desi. The best part about this movie is that characters talk the way normal people talk in everyday life. No over the top dialogues and no voluminous songs. The song ‘Tere Mere Beech Mei’ is an example of how two people will sing and dance in a normal life. That’s the beauty of the movie.

Raghu is a jack of many trades, earning his living by working as a tourist guide and as a rented Baraati in weddings who dances and sings and makes any wedding lively. He is going to get married. The baraatis are going in a bus along with Raghu. On the bus, he meets a chirpy and spunky Gayatri who does not believe in marriage. Sparks flow between the two and Raghu finally flees from his own marriage and leaves Tara strangled and confused on the mandap. Then Gayatri and Raghu get attracted to each other and they start living-in together. Plainly they talk of forbidden things like sex, love, kissing. After some time they decide to marry each other. But this time, Gayatri runs away and leaves Raghu harassed. Raghu then accidently meets Tara and gathers that it was she whom he left on mandap. Slowly they fell in love and as they decide to marry, Gayatri comes in scene.

The song ‘Gullabi’ captures the essence of the beautiful city. Rishi Kapoor in a cameo delivers power punch performance. All the three lead actors are good, though Parineeti sometimes goes over the top. Vaani has impressively matched her acting to the standard of her fine co-actors. Verdict says, a must watch movie.
