Showbiz has an interesting concept with a mediocre script unfortunately the screenplay and execution is what makes it below average fare. The screenplay begins on an average note but later loses track of the main concept. The execution too looks haphazard and many scenes which should have made an impact barely register any importance. The performances too are not up to the mark and are below average. The concept deals with show business and how the media often misuses its power. The concept could have definitely worked but the screenplay and execution is disappointing.
Showbiz has been directed by debutant director Raju Khan and the film stars debutant actor Tushar Jalota as Rohan, Mrinalini Sharma as Shikha, Gulshan Grover, Sushant Singh etc. The music has been composed by Lalit Pandit.
Rohan (Tushar) is a rising star in the music industry and as he gets popular, he is constantly targeted by the media. Rohan is seeing his music agent, Shikha. The media hounds Rohan to increase their TRP's and decide to get a juicy scoop despite it being dishonest. Rohan is looking out for a prostitute for some reason and a few media personnel who are trying to target him decide to follow him. However these same media people become responsible for a serious accident involving Rohan and the prostitute. The media then spreads different malicious lies about Rohan and the prostitute trying to malign his reputation.
Rohan then decides that things have got out of hand and takes the law into his own hands. He wants to take revenge against the media and sets a trap for them. He teaches them a bitter lesson.
The concept of the media often being harsh on celebrities is different and interesting. But the manner in which the concept is handled is immature and unappealing. The screenplay seems loud and confusing and director Raju Khan has been unable to bring depth and feeling while executing his scenes. The media and celebrities are portrayed as one dimensional characters.
The films dips mainly during the post interval portions and the climax is exaggerated and unbelievable. On the whole a lot of violence and lawlessness is observed in the latter portions. Director Raju is unable to give a proper direction to the material. The music is plain average and none of the songs manage to make much of a mark. The cinematography is mediocre and dialogues are fine.
Performances by the debutant Tushar is not up to the mark as the script does not let him perform. He delivers a below average performance. Mrinalini is fare but is not given too much to do in the film. Sushant Singh is good and Gulshan Grover too delivers. However the performances on the whole are lacking.
Overall the screenplay and execution makes the film fairly disappointing despite an interesting concept. The film is unable to engage and entertain the audiences. A below average film.
