Return of Hanuman has an extremely weak script and even the screenplay is disappointing. The script tries to merge a mythological perspective with today's modern times, but what ultimately comes across is a confusing attempt that does not do justice to either one of the concepts. The film by and large is for kids and animation buffs. While Return of Hanuman is supposedly not a sequel to Hanuman, one naturally tends to compare the two films. And Return of Hanuman definitely pales in comparison to the earlier one. The animation too is merely mediocre in the film and overall the film itself is just about average.
Return of Hanuman has been produced by Percept Picture Company and it has been directed by Anurag Kashyap. The film belongs to the mythological/animation genre and the music has been composed by Tapas Relia.
There are two separate aspects, one is the mythological aspect where the Gods and demons have a fight and then a curse is placed on Earth and the people of it. The focus then shifts to the modern day, where Lord Hanuman makes a request to Lord Brahma to send him to Earth. After signing a contract with several do's and don'ts, Lord Hanuman is finally given permission to go down to Earth. He is born to a simple Pandit and his wife and his voracious appetite ultimately leads to the village being left with no grain and food. However little Hanuman also tries to help a young boy who is ridiculed in school and constantly made fun of. He helps this little boy and also does whatever good he can for his small village.
Meanwhile the earth and its people have been cursed and many destructive and dark incidents take place. The gods have no choice and hence one of them is chosen to save the planet. Lord Hanuman also does his bit to help them. So will the Gods be able to save the planet and its people.
The script often gets confusing as the focus keeps shifting from one issue to the next without really linking the two aspects. Moreover the plot and sequences often get unbelievable and irrational. Lord Hanuman's character is portrayed cutely and his quirks too are engaging. However the gods and demons simply enter and exit as they please serving to confuse the audiences. There are few sequences that one may enjoy due to the animation. The voice over of SRK, a Gabbar Singh etc don't seem to fit in with the mythological aspect.
Moreover the pace seems slow at several places in the film. The animation in certain sequences is fine, but not on par with international standards. The climax too is a disappointment and seems unending. The music is also very basic and could have been better utilised. Dialogues are average.
Overall a weak and confusing script as well as unimpressive execution and screenplay are responsible for Return of Hanuman being fairly mediocre and unimpressive.
