Players - Movie Review
‘Players’ is a straight lift from the Hollywood flick, ‘The Italian Job’. Abbas-Mustan is a master of thrillers. The twist and turns in their script is the main attraction of their flick. Their movies never lose interest. Though ‘Players’ has been inspired from the Hollywood flick, the screenplay has been modified to suit the Indian audience.
Chase, murder, love, suspense, cheating, thrill, style and statement are the basic ingredients of Abbas-Mustan’s movie. The movie has a bunch of stars like Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor Bobby Deol, Bipasha Basu. The film is no lacking in style and statement but lacks in execution. The script has many loopholes which could be clearly noticed and leaves one in disbelief. Abbas-Mustan disappointed his fans this time. The editing is a big let down.
The movie speaks about gang of clever, chic and pointed players who team up for a mission to steal gold. They plan a big robbery. Abhishek Bachchan (Charlie) is the mastermind behind the robbery. To carry out the mission successful, Charlie requires some members. His role model Victor Dada (Vinod Khanna) helps Charlie to form a team of explosive expert Bilal (Sikander Kher), illusionist Rony (Bobby Deol), Spider (Neil Nitin Mukesh), Riya (Bipasha Basu), Naina (Sonam Kapoor) and makeup expert Sunny (Omi Vaidya).
They have only 10 minutes to accomplish the robbery. How the players steal the gold from the moving train and what trick they play will be really interesting to watch.
Speaking about performances, Abhishek Bachchan steals the show with his charisma. He was awesome. Bipasha Basu has higher her glam quotient. She looked fabulous in bikini. Neil Nitin Mukesh had scope to show his acting caliber but he fails to charm. Bobby Deol has been sidelined and wasted. Omi Vaidya’s comic timings was excellant. Sonam Kapoor, Sikander Kher and Vinod Khanna have done their respective jobs well.
As far as music is concerned, the music of 'Players'is a big let down. Pritam fails to impress this time. The songs are not at all thrilling. It lacks the passion.
In the nutshell, ‘Players’ makes a good movie but not a complete paisa wasool. It lacks thrill. It has been well promoted but failed to keep its promise.
