Mr. Joe B Carvalho
The previous year 2013, Bollywood ended on a positive note with the mega block blaster ‘Dhoom 3’. In the new year it was expected that the run of good movies will continue in the box office. Therefore hopes were high as the film 'Mr. Joe B Carvalho' was all set to release in the first Friday of the new year. Though Bollywood avoids releasing movies on the first Friday of a new year, this flick boldly got released on 3rd January 2014.
This was a comeback film of sort for Soha Ali Khan who has been missing from Hindi movies for quite some time and doesn’t have a single hit to her name. Soha looked good in the trailers of the movie too. Also fine actor such as Arshad Warsi is the hero of the movie. Expectations were high from the movie. Film critics and analysts were eager to learn whether the movie can eat away the popularity of ‘Dhoom 3’.
However the movie turned out to be a dud at the box office. Arshad Warsi plays the role of a small time detective in Bangalore who is in search of a case that will bring him fame and money. Jaaved Jaaferi dons the role of an international terrorist named Carlos and loves sucking lollypops all the time. Soha Ali Khan plays the role of a police officer.
The comedy is all about mistaken identities and goes astray within the first fifteen minutes of the movies. The script is a mess. It is the first directorial venture of Samir Tewari and he has failed to deliver.
Soha Ali Khan looks glamorous and stunning in bikinis. However, her acting is pathetic. She tries to caricature the act of Chulbul Pandey from the movie ‘Dabangg’ but even fails in that. Shakti Kapoor is also the part of the star cast but he looks like the shadow of his past characters only and is unable to deliver anything new.
The only saving grace in the mindless movie is the performance of Arshad Warsi, though even he is unable to save the film. In a few scenes Jaaved Jaaferi and Arshad Warsi puts up hilarious performance together.
Amartya Rahut has given good music to the songs but the bad lyrics
have poured cold water on the entire good job done. All in all you can avoid
the movie and you won’t miss a thing.
