Mission Istanbul - Movie Review

Apporva Lakia’s genres of films portray powerful plot and least romance, dance and song. So the songs of his film are generally composed keeping in mind the priorities of the storyline. Ek Ajnabee, Shootout At Lokhandwala and now Mission Istaanbul, his every films delves into the insight story of terror, kidnapping, murder and in such situation, music hardly has any scope to sooth one’s ears.

His music usually tells the story of anger, hatred, disturbance, fear and fight. They are mostly of wacky numbers and overloaded with heavy music. The music of Mission Istanbul is also the same; it is very fast and a blend of western, Indian and Turkish track. Apoorva usually prefers manifold music directors to frame the music of his films and therefore this time also, he went for varieties. He ropes in Anu Malik, Shamir Tandon, Chirantan Bhatt and Mika Singh for Mission Istanbul. There are altogether six songs which sounds quite thrilling and speedy.

World Hold On World Hold On – The album opens with this unique number. It starts with the female voice of Gayatri Ganjawala and later joined her by Kunal Ganjawala and Raaj Shabbir Ahmed. This song has a lot of western beats and lyricist and composer Shamir Tandon has created the music keeping in mind the backdrop of the film. It’s a peppy number, fast and full of youth feeling. It will sound catchier when it will get synchronized with the visual.

Mission Mission – The title song Mission Mission is of very high frequency, written and sung by Hamza Faruqui. He is a man who is rarely heard and so people will find some novelty in his tune. He has been given the important responsibility of crooning the title song. The song is of high pitch and mainly a club number. Chirantan Bhatt has composed the tune. The song is average to hear.

Jo Gumshuda – Crooned by Shaan and Mahalaxmi. The song goes very well with their voice. It has all the flavor of Bollywood masala. Anu Malik has composed the song and he has incorporated some Turkish tune, keeping in mind the backdrop of the film.  This is a medium pitched song and sounds quite soothing in the combination of two versatile singers. People can experience some romanticism in it.

Nobody Like You – A huge team of singers come together to croon this peppy number. Chirantan Bhatt again took the task of composing this English and Hindi jovial, high voltage number. Hamza Faruqui, Ishq Bector penned the lyrics. Anoushka and Neeraj are the main mike holders and joined them in the background are dozen of singers. The song sounds like a remix version and can be graded more than average listening.

Yaar Mera Dildaara - Javed Ali of ‘Kehne Ko Jashn-e-baharaan Hai’ (Jodhaa Akbar) has been signed to lend his voice for this Sufi track.  Notable Javed Saab penned the lyrics and versatile Sunidhi Chauhan gave company to Javed. It is melodious to listen but cannot be regarded exceptional.

Apun Ke Saath – Here Punjabi singer Mika Singh has wore the hat of singer, lyricist and composer. Helped him in penning the lyrics is Virag Mishra and Pretty Priya is Mika’s co-singer. It is best known as a rap number and the term ‘Mission Istanbul’ has been incorporated to match with the title. It is a good effort by singer, lyricist and composer Mika Singh.

In a nutshell, the tracks of Mission Istanbul cannot be ranked exceptional but they also cannot be ranked below the mark. It will not have a mass appeal and will attract only some section of the people. One of the plus point of the songs are that they are all situational and fulfills the demand of the film by insertion of mostly western and Turkish lyrics. In the coming days, it’s level will definitely be high up when audience will get to see their favorite stars Shreya Saran, Zayed Khan, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani grooved on those beats.
