Karthik Calling Karthik - Movie Review
The name and promo of the film Karthik Calling Karthik at the beginning created inquisitiveness in the mind of the audience. They waited with bated breath to known what is the secret behind a person calling himself. Finally, the curiosity unveiled and the audience’s reaction was not woh! Or alas! When the mystery unfolded it did not took away the audience by storm. KCK is neither a romantic film nor a full fledged thriller. The chemistry between Farhan and Deepika rocked. They were impressive.
In the film, Farhan Akhtar plays Karthik, who is an introvert guy and has a lack of confidence in dealing with the day to day challenges of life. He faces problem in his office and everywhere. Whereas, Deepika Padukone who plays Shonali is smart, clever and very quick, intelligent and confident in every matter. They work in the same office. Karthik has always been looked down by his boss and colleques in the office, he could not impress them with his work or behavior but Shonali is always up-to the mark in her work and in her other dealings and gets praise for her work.
She was popular in the office while Karthik was almost unnoticeable. He could not say anything but he always carried a special feeing for Shonali. He failed to convey his love to Shonali. Life was almost a hell for Karthik and everyone takes him for granted. But one day, his life completely changed when he received a call from a stranger who introduced himself as Karthik. Karthik was shocked to receive a call from him. What shocked him the most was that the person very well acquainted about his nature and what was going through in his life.
The unknown Karthik was almost a God for him. He understands his problem and guides him how to deal with those shortcomings. On following the advice of the stranger, Karthik becomes a champion. People began to value him and he was no more taken for granted.
Then Karthik No 2 became his constant guide. Karthik discusses his problem with him and he solves it. With the guidance of Karthik 2, he also wins over Shonali’s heart.
It’s interesting as it keeps the audience hooked to their seat with the aim to know what’s coming next and who is the person on the other end of the phone that guides Karthik constantly.
Debutante director Vijay Lalwani’s job is fulfilling. His focus was straight but the climax was not promising. The first half was interesting but the second half was too stretched.
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's music was outstanding. The music sparks. Sanu John Varughese’s cinematography is perfect. Dialogues are catchy.
Farhan Akhar as an actor rocks. He has made a big leap in the acting department and he performed superb in some very difficult instances. Deepika Padukone’s style quotient was very high. She has carried herself very well. Speaking about acting, she was up to the mark. Other supporting actors like Ram Kapoor, Shifaali Shah, Vivan Bhatena , Tarana, Vipin Sharma and Yatin Karyekar are captivating.
In the nutshell, ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’ is a good work by the team. It is enjoyable but don’t preset your mind that you are going to watch something unusual. It is basically a metro product. Enjoy with friends and family.
