Dr. Ravi & Mr. Hyde is a short and sweet movie about Dr. Ravi who finds himself halfway through his life having not yet achieved the greatness he anticipated. His search for divine fulfillment takes him from the halls of a hospital to what he believes is his true calling – directing and producing a true “timeless classic” motion picture. On his journey, he must cope with unscrupulous agents, reluctant colleagues, an unenthusiastic wife and even the mafia. From the streets of Pittsburgh to the sun-swept shores of South Africa, Dr. Ravi’s search takes him near and far, eventually bringing him to the realization that it’s not important what he does or how well he does it, as long as he just does something.
The storyline of Dr. Ravi & Mr. Hyde is well developed and focused but the screenplay could have been better. There are some moments in the film where scenes don’t follow but the scenes in themselves are shot well. There are some hilarious moments and then some not-so funny moments in the film. Dr. Ravi’s dance, his confrontation with Joe and few other scenes are really funny and carry the story forward. The scenes with Dr. Ravi and his colleagues are well justified according to the script. Also, Dr. Ravi’s honest yet rocky relationship with his wife is shown in a great way, which adds to the film.
The performances were good by most of the cast. Ravi Godse attempts to act well but needs more practice and training. Olga Segall, who plays Mrs. Ravi, is fantastic in her role. Kris Kapoor (Jessica) does a descent job playing a film student. Jagdish Kulkarni (Mack) is good. Patrick Jordan fits the role as a lawyer.
All in all, Dr. Ravi & Mr. Hyde is a good attempt at a watchable comic caper with a simple soul. It will definitely get you thinking about your achievements in life, or the lack of them!
