Cash is a cops and robbers film that is trendy, stylish and has a glossy look. However what goes against the film is the weak script and lackluster screenplay. The execution though by director Anubhav Sinha appears fare due to the sensational action sequences and stylish, glossy look.. Cash has a stylish look, it has high packed action, animation around gorgeous locations etc. The film seems to be a reflection of Dhoom 2 in many ways, the subject, the stylish glossy look, action etc. Although the film is a multi starrer, the performances are not up to the mark. Overall the film comes across as high on gloss and style but below average in content.
Cash is an action thriller that has been directed by Anubhav Sinha and the story has been written by Vinay and Yash. The film stars Ajay Devgan, Zayed Khan, Ritesh Deshmukh, Suniel Shetty, Shamita Shetty, Dia Mirza, Esha Deol and Ayesha Takia. The music for the film has been composed by Vishal-Shekhar.
Ajay Devgan is a shrewd con artist and has been hired to carry out a heist which includes robbing a priceless and precious diamond. To pull of this heist he enlists the help of two small time robbers Zayed and Ritesh. However it seems he is not the only one after the diamonds and he faces obstacles from Don Suniel Shetty. Meanwhile Ajay is also ironically leading a double life where on the one hand he is a con artist whom no one knows about and on the other hand he lives a normal simple lifestyle. In his normal simple lifestyle he is also seeing Shamita Shetty who is the Head of Security in Cape Town.
However Ajay faces a tough challenge when he realizes he is up against his own girlfriend Shamita whose latest assignment is to ensure top notch protection for the diamond that Ajay is about to rob. However what begins as a simple heist ends in a complicated maze when the Ajay and his three con artists are falsely accused. But no one knows the truth and hence it is up to Ajay and his three accomplices to find out the truth.
Anubhav Sinha has used a stylish glossy look right through his film. Many of the action sequences incorporated in the cops and robbers chase are first rate. The subject of the cops and robbers chase too is fairly recent in bollywood. But unfortunately the script does not come across as riveting and satisfying. The story lacks a reality quotient and is not convincing often. The film revolves around a plot that seems to be going no where. In fact it seems like director Anubhav first thought out the scenes like fight, action, animation etc and then later tried to incorporate a story . Anubhav’s film Cash is akin to a collage but one without a theme. Anubhav has tried to throw in drama, action, gloss etc. but the basic premise which is the script and screenplay are lacking and hence wasted.
Even the stylish look given to the actors somehow does not seem to suit them. A glossy and stylish look has been given to the film. Unfortunately this does not suffice to take the film higher. One of the entertaining aspects of the film is the action sequences done by Antony Stone which are first rate. The music of the film by Vishal-Shekhar is average but the lyrics by Vishal seem to try very hard to give it a modern feel. Even the dialogues by Anubhav are not unto the mark. There is no story and the screenplay is inconsistent. Cinematography by Ravi manages to capture some colourful aspects. Performances leave much to be desired.
Ajay Devgan has delivered an average performance. Zayed Khan does not stand out much, Ritesh is fare. Amongst the woman, Shamita Shetty has a meaty role in a film after a long time and she is average, Esha Deol’s character did not give her much scope to enact. Dia Mirza is fair.
Cash lacks the ability to grip the audiences’ attention as the storyline seems to be missing, it is stylish to view but there is no concrete story or plot. At the box-office it may be below average.
