Om Shanti Om has the film industry as its setting; the first half of the film is based in the 70’s while the second half is based in present times. The film stars Shahrukh Khan as Om and newcomer Deepika Padukone as Shanti. The film has been produced under SRK’s banner Red Chillies Entertainment and it has been directed by Farah Khan. The theme of the film is reincarnation.
Om plays the role of an extra in the 70’s, while Shanti is a beautiful popular famous star. Om is in love with the beautiful actress like many others; however Om dies in an untimely tragic manner. The scene then shifts to the present time when Om is reincarnated and from there on the story moves on. Om is haunted by his past life; he sets out on a mission to find out how he died and also to seek his lost love Shanti.
Om Shanti Om has a special song sequence in the film which has around 30 stars from the past and present such as Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Malaika Arora Khan, Vidya Balan, Preity Zinta, Govinda, Rani Mukherjee, Kajol, Rekha, Jeetendra, Mithun Chakraborthy etc. The film also stars Shreyas Talpade and Arjun Rampal. Om Shanti Om is based on the Hollywood flick ‘Chances Are’ which is about a man who is reincarnated. One of the highlights of the film includes Shahrukh displaying his new six pack abs in an item number. The music of the film has been done by Vishal-Shekhar. Om Shanti Om is all set for a Diwali release on October 9.
