Om Shanti Om - Movie Preview
Om Shanti Om has been produced under SRK’s Red Chillies banner and it has been directed by Farah Khan. The film stars SRK and newcomer Deepika Padukone. After a successful film like Chake De and SRK and Farah's first hit film Main Hoon Na, now there are again high expectations from OSO. Newcomer Deepika Padukone looks gorgeous and all these factors make this a highly anticipated film. The music of the film has been composed by Vishal-Shekhar and the lyrics have been penned by Javed Akhtar. Singers like K.K, Shaan, Udit Narayan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sonu Nigam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan etc have lent their voices for the film.
'Aankhon Mein Teri' – This romantic number has been rendered by K.K and the lyrics have been penned by Vishal. The number has a soulful melody with a soothing rhythm. It has an old world charm and appeal and yet it also has a contemporary tune. A soft, sweet and enjoyable love song.
'Dard-E-Disco' – The song is rendered by Sukhwinder and assisted by Caralisa, Marianne D'Cruz and Nisha Mascarenhas. This is a Hinglish kind of number which is a typical bollywood masala number. It is an item song with Shahrukh displaying his new six-pack abs that catches one’s attention. It has a funky, modern tune with western musical arrangements. It has a remix version which peps up the volume and beats. Overall a pleasant dance track.
'Deewangi Deewangi' – This number has been rendered by Shaan, Udit Narayan, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan and Rahul Saxena. It is a fusion sort of number with western arrangements and an old world melody. Pop, qawalli and even bhangra are incorporated in this number. There is a ‘Rainbow Mix’ which is equally entertaining. It is a vibrant and appealing number.
'Main Agar Kahoon' – The song has been sung by Sonu Nigam in his soft and soulful voice accompanied by Shreya Ghoshal who lends sweetness with her voice. A true blue golden era number, the song begins with a twinkling kind of tune. It is a romantic song with nice lyrics. The melody and tune are nostalgic and create a reflective mood. An endearing love song.
'Jag Soona Soona Lage' - Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Richa Sharma sing this melancholic track. Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s voice is passionate and filled with a high dose of emotion. Musical Arrangements are purely Indian and even the melody and rhythm has a semi-classical appeal. A truly touching song.
'Dhoom Taana' – Abhijeet and Shreya Ghoshal render this song which again has an old world charm in the rendition as well as melody. However it also has a sprinkling of western arrangements like a rock and roll tune. Dhol sound is a constant accompaniment in the song that keeps the track lively and peppy.
'Dastaan-E-Om Shanti Om' – Shaan renders this song which sounds and has a similar feel to Ek hasina thi from the film Karz. The song is like a flashback of all the events and has some poignant lyrics. The theme music of the film is heard often and it has a highly dramatic musical orchestra to give it that added zing. It is more of a situational kind of track which takes the story forward. There is 'Dastaan - The Dark Side Mix' which has added beats and with a varied range of musical arrangements. An average track that does give a dramatic feel.
'Om Shanti Om - Medley Mix' – This is the song which incorporates the Om Shanti Om theme music as well as tunes from all the other songs in the album. It has a club, dance feel and is the one which has around 30 stars, veteran and contemporary gyrating to the tune. A peppy, upbeat tune and beats makes this a fine dance track.
'Om Shanti Om - Themes' – An instrumental piece of Om Shanti Om which has been played on the piano. Passable.
Om Shanti Om has a few typical bollywood masala songs and also melodic classy numbers which bring in an old world charm. A mix of various tunes, music and songs make this album a good one.
