Predicted as the biggest hit of the year by the bollywood predictameter, Lage Raho Munnabhai is the sequel to Munnabhai M.B.B.S. The film has been produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Lage Raho Munnabhai once again sees the two popular lovable characters that were seen in the prequel, Sanjay Dutt as Munnabhai and Arshad Warsi as Circuit. The starcast also includes Boman Irani, Vidya Balan, Dia Mirza and Jimmy Shergill.
Munnabhai is the affable ‘bhai’ and Circuit is his funny ‘right hand man’. The two have no qualms with their profession of being goons. Everything is going just fine when one fine day; Munnabhai is bitten by a bug. However this bug is none other than the love bug, Munnabhai is smitten and falls head over heels in love. The only problem here is that Munnabhai does not know how the lady whom he is in love with, Jhanvi (Vidya) looks as she is an RJ (radio jockey). But Munna is smitten by the soothing, soft and sweet voice of Jhanvi. He listens to Jhanvi’s voice on the radio for hours on end. He dreams of how beautiful she will be and of marriage to her. Munnabhai constantly talks of the love of his life, Jhanvi to his sidekick Circuit who is always ready with some plan or advice.
Finally Munnabhai meets Jhanvi and is once again besotted with her beauty, what more could he have asked for other than a beautiful girl with a beautiful voice. Unfortunately Jhanvi does not know that Munna is a local goon, but instead mistakes him to be a history professor. Jhanvi now wants Munna to deliver a history lecture to none other than her family. One again Munna is in a soup and seeks advice from his trusted aide Circuit who comes up with a plan guaranteed to work. Will Circuit’s plan work and will Munnabhai be able to carry forth the plan, will Jhanvi learn of Munna’s true profession, will Jhanvi’s family accept Munna?
Munnabhai encounters all these problems and more, he also suddenly has come face to face with Mahatma Gandhi, a historical figure. How will Munnabhai react when faced with a person of such high stature who is the complete opposite of him in morals, values and ideals? Will Munnabhai and Gandhiji take each on each other, what will the outcome of their interaction be? Meanwhile Munna is also encountering other small problems with Lucky Singh (Boman Irani), a builder. The ongoing battle between the two gives rise to several hilarious situations. Lucky values money, fame and fortune above all else while his pretty daughter Simran (Dia Mirza) thinks that good values and morals are more important than money. Another character entwined within the story is that of Victor D’souza (Jimmy Shergill), a young lad who has dreams of making it big, but the harsh trials and tribulations of life makes him lose heart till Munnabhai gives him a fresh lease on life.
The film is a comedy with the antics of Circuit and Lucky Singh making it a laugh riot. The funny situations, the hilarious antics of the characters and the unpredictable situations definitely make this film a highly anticipated comic flick. The music for the film as been composed by Shantanu Moitra and the lyrics have been penned by Swanand Kirkire. The music in the film is more situational but helps to carry forth the film and there is one track that is melodious. |
