Krrish - Movie Preview

Krissh, a film produced and directed by Rakesh Roshan is an eagerly anticipated film, as it is a sequel to the box-office hit film ‘Koi Mil Gaya’. The concept in the earlier film of the alien and space was quite novel and interesting. This film will see Hrithik Roshan, after a long hiatus and in a new avatar. The project has been touted to be around 50 crores and is said to have special effects which are on par with Hollywood films. It will also be the first film in Hindi cinema to introduce the concept of a superhero. Well with so many novel and interesting aspects, the audiences can barely wait for the film to release. The main lead in the film is Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra. The music of the film has been given by Rakesh’s brother Rajesh Roshan and the background music has been done by Salim-Sulaiman. Nasir Faraaz has written three of the songs in the album and Ibraheem Ashq and Vijay Akela give their inputs too.

‘Pyaar Ki Ek Kahani’- This number is sung in the melodious voices of Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. This song has been doing the rounds of the promos and is picturised on Hrithik and Priyanka. The entire get up of Hrithik in the village attire and the beautiful greenery and hills all around, gives the song an old world charm and it seems quaint. Both Sonu Nigam and Shreya’s rendition seems flawless and flows smoothly. The beats are moderately paced and the lyrics are average. The background music has an ethnic and Indian touch to it. But the song belongs more to the 90’s style and is a far cry from today’s upbeat, fast and catchy tunes. The song needs to be enjoyed for its own unique style. The song definitely grows on you after listening to it a couple of times.

Score: 7/10

‘Koi Tumsa Nahin’- This song written by Nasir Faraaz has once again been rendered in the voices of Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. This one is a traditional love song which is soft and beautiful. The song has charm and ethereal beauty. A variety of fusion background music makes for great listening. The base tune is ethnic and manages to capture the listener’s attention. A simple number which has been sung well. The lyrics are pleasant and the beats are rhythmic. The ‘Big Band Mix’ sung by the same duo has a more modern appeal to it. A good dose of English words are thrown in for effect and the music has a mixture of several western musical instruments like the piano and saxophone. The music in this version makes a strong impact. A well rounded song that has a little bit of everything.

Score: 7/10

‘Chori Chori…Chupke Chupke’- This beautiful love song is sung by Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghoshal. Both are a good choice for this number. This is a carefree song that has the feel and spirit of pure joy of singing in the mountains and valleys. The picturisation will perhaps be some beautiful evergreen hill station. The song once again has a very Indianised tune and music. The lyrics are simple and sweet. The song has been given slow beats and tempo in keeping with the mood of the song. Classical strains are audible throughout the song. A song that will make you get into the mood for romance. This song too has the 90’s charm. It is sweet and subtle.

Score: 7/10

‘Main Hoon Woh Aasman’- This number written by Nasir Faraaz, has been sung by Rafaqat Ali Khan and Alka Yagnik. The song begins in a mysterious manner and has a haunting enigma kind of tune. This melodious number is perhaps situational to the superhero character of Krissh. The song is moderately paced and has a mix of chants towards the middle of the song. The base music for the song is Indian and the tempo is slow and slightly low key. The ‘Mystic Love Mix’ sung by the same duo is a faster version of the same song. The song is interspersed with classical ‘alaap’ amidst western instruments. This version has more funky, peppy variations in the music and is more listenable than the original version. An average number.

Score: 5/10

‘Dil Na Diya’- This number which has inputs from Vijay Akela has been sung by Kunal Ganjawala. It sounds quite similar to ‘Its Magic’ from ‘Koi Mil Gaya’. The entire mood and feel of the song resembles ‘Its Magic’. The picturisation where Hrithik showcases his dance histrionics is similar. This one has the backdrop of a carnival and circus. The mood of the song is upbeat and beats are foot tapping. A typical Rajesh Roshan dance number. The song has a mixture of Indian and western musical arrangements. And even though the lyrics are just average, the song is groovy.

Score: 6.5/10

The music of Krissh is fresh, appealing and has an old world charm that has not been heard much lately. There aren’t too many remixes and the songs are simple but nonetheless refreshingly soulful. The music will appeal to a variety of segments of people, the mature and even youngsters who want to indulge in listening to a return of the prominent style of the 90’s music. Quite a few numbers will perhaps feature on the charts. Calm, soothing and relaxing, that’s how the album of Krissh can be described.
