Khoya Khoya Chand has been written and directed by Sudhir Mishra. After Om Shanti Om, another film Khoya Khoya Chand delves into the world of Hindi cinema, but this time it explores the cinema of 50’s and 60’s. The film stars Shiney Ahuja, Soha Ali Khan, Soniya Jehan, Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak etc. The music of the film has been composed by Shantanu Moitra.
Zafar (Shiney Ahuja) belongs to a royal Nawabi family in Lucknow; however he is a restless, free spirited soul who wants to find his own way in life. With a passion for writing film scripts, Zafar brings his dream to Bombay to the glittering world of Indian cinema. However over here he is enveloped by the glamour of this fake world, where dreams become a reality and even shatter overnight. Will Zafar who comes from a small town be able to deal with the power, greed, ambitious and harsh reality of cinema? But in this pretentious glamour world he also meets the beautiful Nikhat. Nikhat too has a trying journey in the film industry from being an extra, to a naive starlet and then a fine actress. But she has a high price to pay for moving up the ladder.
Nikhat and Zafar fall in love, but their’s is a relationship bogged by problems right from the start. Both highly ambitious and independent individuals, will their nature and this fake glamorous world shatter them apart. Will they have to forgo ambition for love or love for ambition? Both Nikhat and Zafar cannot live with each other due to the pressures of the film industry but they cannot live without each other too due to their magnetism drawing them towards each other. However none of them will forgo their ambition for love, so are they bound to be apart?
The film industry is filled with different kinds of people, fading superstars, rising superstars, insecure actresses, jealous divas, fine actors and actresses, selfish studio owners etc and there is a lot of good and bad in the film industry, beautiful people, immense talent and potential, gossip, scandals, oversized egos, attraction to stardom, obsession etc. One of the reigning divas include, Ratanbala, a pretty but insecure and neurotic actress who does not believe in her talent but uses her charm instead to get what she wants. Ratanbala has seen it all in the film industry, ditched by a superstar, insecurity about losing her position in the film industry, etc but she manages to come through it but will this fake world of glamour takes its toll on her too. And finally she also tries to charm her way into Zafar’s life.
Prem Kumar is the reigning superstar of the times, a charmer with a flamboyant personality. Prem is aware that perhaps his charm is slowly fading with time and he will do anything it takes to retain his glory and power in the film industry. He is hugely ambitious and will do anything to maintain his superstar status. But love means very little to him and it is simply a means to get what he desires.
But will Nikhat and Zafar’s unpredictable love story be able to survive in this world where nothing seems like what it really is, the film industry set in the 50’s ad 60’s?
