Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey - Movie Preview
‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se’ by Ashutosh Gowariker speaks about struggle movement. The film has been inspired from a book written by Manini Chatterjee. To transform a book into celluloid is a tough job. Black and white script always sound different then the celluloid version. Ashutosh is an ace filmmaker, he always tries different which his audience waits long to view on silver screen. His last film, ‘What’s Your Rashee’ did not click at the box-office but ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ was liked and appreciated by the audience.
'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se’ is a patriotic film, inspired from the famous novel, ‘Do or Die’ by Manini Chatterjee’. To put real fact on 70mm reel is not a matter of joke, authenticity of the report needs to be verified. Every small incident need to be verified as little mistake in the fact may prove fatal. Ashutosh Gowariker mostly tries to depict Indian history in his film which the audience appreciated. His film is larger than life, he chooses every character with minute thought and same is the case with ‘KHJJS’. He chose Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone for the prime role.
The film is set in 1930, British India and speaks about a school teacher Surjya Sen (Abhisek Bachchan) in Chittagong. He forms his team to fight against the British. His team comprises 56 young boys, 5 defiant revolutionaries and 2 determined young women to shake the British establishment in Chittagong. On April 18, 1930, Surjya Sen planned serial attacks in different branches of the British Empire with his teams without their knowledge and he and his team members becomes prime target of the Britishers.
The first half of the film mostly deals with Surjya Sen forming his team members, planning the attacks and executing them while the second half deals with fights between the freedom fighters and the British empire. The plot and the fights keep the audience engrossed. Ashutosh executed everything very interestingly hardly left any room for complaint.
‘KHJJS’ comes as a cool breeze. Audience is actually bored of watching the same romantic films. ‘KHJJS’ is different, refreshing and thrilling. On would get to experience something real.
Speaking about the other departments of the film, Ashutosh Gowariker handled the script very well. Sohail Sen's music is acceptable. Seetha Sandhiri's cinematography is appreciable, the 30s era was well captured. Ravi Dewan's stunts are commendable.
Abhishek Bachchan delivers his best. With dhoti and Punjabi, he looks like an ideal Bengali babu. Deepika Padukone as Kalpana Datta is simple but she had a little scope to enact in the film as it is basically speaks about Surjya Sen. Others actors like Vishakha Singh, Sikandar Kher, Samrat Mukherjee, Shreyas Pandit added life to the script.
In the nutshell, ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se’ is not a bad watch. It is a totally Abhishek Bachchan film. It will draw good number of audience to the theatre but what is strange that Ashutosh did not promote his film well. Worth watching.
