Jhoom Barabar Jhoom - Movie Preview

Jhoom Barabar Jhoom is a Yash Raj film that has been directed by Shaad Ali. The star cast has some of bollywood’s best like Abhishek Bachchan as Rikki Thukral, Lara Dutta as Anaida, Bobby Deol as Steve, Preity Zinta as Alvira Khan and Amitabh Bachchan as the film narrator. The music for the film has been composed by Shankhar, Ehsaan and Loy.

Rikki Thukral is young, vibrant, enthusiastic and energetic about life. He is also roughish, loud in talking and dressing and believes in doing everything on a large scale. Rikki is from Punjab and has come to London to make it his new oyster of life. Rikki is a sort of salesman, but the difference here is that he sells anything and everything under the sun, from small items like pirated DVD’s, fridges, antiques etc to bigger items like property, diamonds etc. Rikki is known as the Jack of all and master of none. He has a partner Huffy Bhai with whom he works and makes people’s dreams come true for a price and for him doing any work is not below his dignity. Rikki loves his job and is not ashamed of it.

Rikki meets Anaida (Lara), a sweet intelligent woman who knows what she wants and knows how to go about getting it. She works as the Assistant Manager at The Ritz Hotel and is diligent, efficient and smart. She can also judge and analyze people well but despite her brisk hurried manner, she is a softie at heart. When she picked up Rikki’s kerchief from the floor and returned it to him, she was hooked by his quick wit and floored when he charmed her. Anaida does everything with precision and runs the Hotel with ease managing to balance everything well. Anaida fell in love with Rikki and she was also floored by the innocent and charming Princess Diana who was last seen at The Ritz hotel before she passed away. Anaida was one of the several thousand mourners who cried when Princess Diana passed away. Rikki and Anaida make a good team and enjoy each other’s company.

Alvira Khan (Preity) is a Pakistani but born and bred in London and hence she considers herself British. She comes from a typical loud Pakistani family, but none of that for Alvira who is sophisticated, poised and always dignified just like the Brits. Alvira can’t tolerate cheap or crass behaviour and style, for her only ‘classy’ will do and nothing less. She hopes and prays to meet a Prince who is the epitome of classiness and who will whisk her off her feet. She works as Manager at the House of Fraser’s where she blends in with the polished and cultured lot very easily. One day she meets her knight in shining armor at Madame Tussauds where he saves her from being crushed under one of the wax statutes. Her saviour is Steve and as their eyes meet, their hearts too meet and they fall into a pit of love.

Steve Singh is himself half Punjabi, half British. He is dashing, charming, chivalrous and classy. Steve is also rich and powerful, he is a partner at the elitist Smith & Smith law firm where he works on cases that are big and powerful. Though he is powerful, he does not flaunt it around in everyone’s face, instead he quietly charms everyone around with his good looks and debonair style. He is always there to help a lady and will even risk his own life to save someone. He’s here one minute and gone the next, h emerges when Alvira needs a shoulder to support her. He’s sexy and stylish and is bowled over by Alvira.

The problem arises when one day both Rikki and Alvira land up at the station both in wait of their respective fiancés Anaida and Steve. Meanwhile fate intervenes and Alvira and Rikki are placed at the same table in a café as there are no other tables due to the delayed train in which their fiancés are to arrive. Complete opposites, Rikki with his loud talking and dressing, his roughish mannerisms and Alvira prim, proper and classy all the way these two people get talking to kill time. Ironically these two opposite personalities begin to get attracted to each other and are being drawn towards each other as time passes by. Meanwhile in the train Anaida and Steve too get acquainted and start talking. But how can Rikki and Alvira get attracted to other people when they love their fiancés dearly, the two try their best to side step this strong attraction. But will they manage to do it, is something that remains to be seen. Meanwhile they sing and dance Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.
