Goal has been produced under the UTV banner by Ronnie Screwvala and directed by Vivek Agnihotri. The film belongs to the sports genre and has been shot extensively at prominent football stadiums in London and the United Kingdom. It is a film based on soccer and there are many real life players who will be seen playing in various matches in the film. John Abraham and Bipasha Basu come together on-screen after a long hiatus and the rest of the cast consists of Arshad Warsi, Boman Irani, Anil Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Naveen Andrews, Kushal Punjabi etc. The music of the film has been composed by Pritam.
The film depicts the Southall football club which has been facing tremendous problems, one after the other. The once prominent team now has no star players, no coach, no sponsors and no one willing to take a chance on the flagging team. But the Southall team with its various players has one thing that is hope. Hope of reviving their spirit, hope of putting in their best effort and hope that they will win the coveted cup this time. The film depicts the various players and the trials and tribulations that they face on a personal level. The captain of the team Hanif (Naveen Andrews) tries to rope in some talented players and Sunny (John) is a talented player who has a dream of playing first division football.
Hanif also has one main and important thing to do if he wants his team to win the cup this year, get a new coach, one who will inspire the players with confidence and a new hope. So Hanif decides to rope in a celebrated ex-player to coach his team. This is the last ace up his sleeve to motivate his team and he hopes and believes that it will work. Meanwhile there is another daunting problem that the Southall Club faces. Sir Devi Dayal Dhariwal owns the Southall club and also the land that is used by the club. However the head of the city council, Anne along with a sports commentator Johnny Patel are trying their level best to usurp this land that belongs to the Southall club. In their greed to acquire the land, this duo highlights the current problems and setbacks that the team is facing. The duo’s main aim is to see that the team loses this year too as it will benefit them in acquiring the land. Sir Dhariwal must protect his land and the club from these greedy and vicious people.
The stakes have just gone up further and the Southall club has to win the cup this time if they want to save their club from disintegrating? So will they win, will the Southall team surpass their trials and survive? A film that involves a sport that is loved by people all across the world, soccer. So let’s see if the film manages to catch the audiences’ attention with its different theme.
