Fanaa means ‘destroyed in Love’ and this is the central theme of the film. Love often makes us do crazy and insane things. Love often makes us lose control. Fanaa is a film directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Yash Raj films. Fanaa’s lead pair Aamir Khan and Kajol find this deep emotion of love with each other. But this intense and deep love will leave them each destroyed and broken.
Zooni Ali Beg (Kajol) is a beautiful Kashmiri girl. She is blind, but that has not deterred her spirit or her quest for life and everything it has to offer. She wants to see the world and experience it’s magic even though she is blind. So this young Muslim girl decides to set out on a journey where she can see and feel all the glory of this beautiful world. She leaves home with the knowledgeable advice from her father that “In life one comes across situations where the answer to life cannot merely be decided by choosing right or wrong, good or simply bad. Sometimes a person has to make the choice of choosing between what is Greater of two goods or the lesser of two evils”. Zooni Ali pays heed to her father’s advice, as she knows that one day her father’s advice will come in use.
So, with her father’s blessings and her cherished dreams Zooni sets out on her journey. On the journey, she meets Rehan Qadri (Aamir Khan), who is a fun loving vivacious person. Rehan is a local tour guide; he exudes charm and is an incorrigible flirt. He loves poetry and uses it to woo women. He also has a love for architecture, which takes him to various places. But it is Rehan’s love and zest for life that can never keep him in one place and with one person. Now after meeting Zooni, he is enchanted by her simplicity and her zest for life, which matches his own. Together they embark on a journey to see the beautiful architectural places in Delhi. Zooni begins to see the colours of the world through Rehan’s eyes and in doing so; she manages to create a special place in his heart.
Zooni’s friends warn her that Rehan will only break her heart, but Zooni wants to live her life in a carefree manner and does not mind taking risks. Will she pay the price for taking this risk? Rehan has another side of his life, a deep dark secret buried within the confines of his heart. A different way of life where there is only darkness, doom and death. Will Rehan tell the woman who has managed to capture his heart, about this secret life? What will Zooni do when she finds out about the dark side of Rehan’s life? Has the time arrived for Zooni to heed her father’s advice and choose between the ‘greater of two goods or the lesser of two evils’? Will Zooni destroy her love or will she be destroyed by her own love?
The film has been shot in Delhi, Kashmir and Poland. In Delhi, the film has been shot at several historical places like Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, Purana Qila, Lodhi Gardens, Chandni Chowk and the Old Delhi Railway Station. The film is highly anticipated due to the fresh pairing of the extremely talented actors Aamir Khan and Kajol. The rest of the cast consists of Rishi Kapoor, Shiney Ahuja, Tabu and Kirron Kher. The film is slated to release on May 26. |
