Dus Kahaniyaan has 12 different short stories with various actors in each of the stories. The film has been produced by Sanjay Gupta’s White Feather Films. Each of the short stories has been directed by different directors such as Hansal Mehta, Sanjay Gupta, Meghna Gulzar, Apoorva Lakhia and Jasmeet Dhodi. The first short story has been titled
Rice Plate
Cast: Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah
This short story deals with a concept that goes deeper than what meets the eye. It is the struggle of a Hindu woman’s beliefs when her rice plate is claimed by a Muslim man. It goes deeper and explores the often set ways and beliefs that we as individuals have. It pits materialistic things against values and beliefs. Which one will win? With two veteran and brilliant actors this short story is anxiously awaited.
Sex on the Beach
Cast: Dino Morea and Tareena Patel
This short story deals with fantasies coming alive. Dino Morea is reading an old novel on the beach, when this beautiful woman character from the book comes alive. This beautiful woman fulfils all of his fantasies; however he definitely has a price to pay for his fantasy coming alive. The beautiful woman character throws a few surprises at him and he is forced to deal with these.
Love Dale
Cast: Anupam Kher, Aftab Shivdasani and Neha Oberoi
A short story about destiny and life’s chance encounters. Neha meets an old woman in a train and what strikes Neha is that she is wearing only a single earring. This strikes her as odd, and she begins to converse with the old woman. This one chance encounter will change Neha’s destiny and life forever.
Matrimony
Cast: Mandira Bedi, Arbaaz Khan and Sudhanshu Pandey
A story about a happily married couple on the surface takes on different, darker and deeper shades as slowly various layers are uncovered. Mr. and Mrs. Sarin seem like a perfectly happily married couple on the surface, but Mrs Sarin has a little secret where she supposedly goes to meet her ailing aunt once a week. However is she really meeting this aunt or someone else. A story about deceit, betrayal and love.
Gubbare
Cast: Anita Hasnandani, Nana Patekar and Rohit Roy
Anita has an argument with her husband and then boards a bus. On the bus she is seated next to an intriguing man who is holding 14 red balloons. This further piques her attention and what follows is a flashback which delves into the man’s past. And through his story one learns many vital and important lessons of life.
Pooranmashi
Cast: Amrita Singh, Minisha Lamba and Parmeet Sethi
The short story is based on the relationship between a mother and daughter, how sacrifices are made by a mother just to see her daughter happy. It deals with the bonding between two strong women. Amrita Singh’s daughter Minisha will be getting married soon and like every mother she too wants her daughter to be happy in life. Hence Amrita gives unconditional love and makes sacrifices just to see her daughter happy. A story which has strong and powerful emotions.
Strangers in the night
Cast: Neha Dhupia, Mahesh Manjrekar
The story deals with a married couple who give each other a unique gift for every anniversary. Every anniversary each of them takes turns in letting the other in on a secret that they have kept. This anniversary it’s the wife’s turn and she reveals to her husband a unique encounter with a stranger at a railway station waiting room. However the secret will have repercussions on her married life and she is forced to wonder whether it is best to leave some secrets buried deep within oneself.
High on the highway
Cast: Jimmy Shergill, Masumeh
The story is about a road trip on the highway, the eccentricities, the danger and the risk of driving on the highway faced by Jimmy and Masumeh. In fact the highway is similar to the love story of Jimmy and Masumeh, sometimes sweet, sometimes exciting, sometimes unpredictable and sometimes risky.
Zahir
Cast: Manoj Bajpai, Dia Mirza
A love story that is plagued by highs and lows, a writer by profession Manoj Bajpai discovers a deep dark secret about his girlfriend Dia Mirza. This one secret drives him crazy and he takes a never treaded risky path. The depths to which love and its consequences can push humans too is discovered in this love story.
Rise and fall
Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty
Two gangsters Sanjay and Suniel are best of friends; they treat each other as brothers. They rise up in their profession together but ultimately what divides them is power and greed. And this thirst for power leads to their fall. A story about friendship, greed, power and betrayal.
The film has ten short stories; Dus Kahaniyaan and each of the stories seem to have an abstract feel with a theme or moral behind it. Dus Kahaniyaan has a huge star cast and the film is set for release on December 7 2007.
