The story of the film revolves around widow re-marriage amongst a conservative Indian family.
Balraj Kapoor (Amitabh) is the head of the family and is a strong willed and determined man, but he is also wise and progressive in his thinking. A loving husband, doting father and extraordinary father-in-law who believes in questioning tradition and doing the right thing even if it means standing against his own family members. Balraj is a rich bussinessman and adores his wife Shobhana. She is the care taker of the entire family’s needs and wants, she is a loving wife and mother who wants the best for her family. There are only two men in her life her husband Balraj and son Avinash (Salman). Balraj also has an elder brother Balwant (Om Puri). He is a conservative and traditional man and believes in upholding traditional values and customs, family honour and pride mean the world to him.
Balraj and Shobhana love their only son Avinash/Avi (Salman) unconditionally. Balraj treats Avi more like a friend than his son and Shobhana too is a patient and understanding mother. Avi has been abroad for years for his education and now he has returned back to be with his parents. The Kapoor household is happy and full of life due to his return. Avinash is a charming, handsome and adorable guy and would do anything for those whom he loves. One day Avi falls in love with the beautiful Malvika Talwar or Millie. She is a painter by profession and she too is charmed by Avi and his adoring ways. Avi and Millie get married with their parents blessings and soon are going to have a new member within their family. Everyone in the Kapoor household is thrilled and Millie soon has a little baby boy named Ansh. Mille also has a very dear friend Rajat (John Abraham) whose music means everything to him. He too was in love with Millie but he could never tell her his feelings and finally Millie slipped away from him. But Rajat does not harbour any ill feelings towards Millie and her happiness. He wants her to be happy with the life that she has chosen and decides to make music the center of his life. He decides to pursue his career in Europe.
Everything is going well for the Kapoor family when suddenly tragedy strikes. Avi meets with an accident and the entire family is devastated with the loss of their loved one. Balwant and Shobhana try to find comfort in each other and their grandchild Ansh. Unfortunately it is Millie they are worried about, she is leading a life which is sad and lonely, she is unable to get out of the loneliness that Avi’s absence has created. But Balraj cannot bear to see Millie go through this anguish for the rest of her life and so he decides that he will find Millie’s good friend Rajat and bring them together. But none of his family members agree with him, his brother Balwant thinks that his actions will shame them in society and that such an action is against traditions and norms of society. Even Shobhana his wife who has always supported him in every decision is against his decision.
But Balraj is determined to put his daughter-in-law’s happiness before anyone else’s. Will Balraj a lone crusader manage to give Millie a better life. Will he prove to be a good father-in-law. Will Millie agree to her father-in-laws wishes? Widow-remarriage has been a thorn in the Indian society for ages, it has never been accepted and has always been looked down upon by the conservative. Ravi Chopra tries to capture this particular aspect through his film. Will Balraj manage to be Mille’s father first rather than her father-in law. Like every father will he look for his daughter’s happiness above all else? The film is set for a December release.
