Alag is the story of a young boy who is different from everyone else in society. He looks different, behaves differently and also has some special powers that make's him unique from others. How does this boy who is ‘alag’ (different) feel, how does he manage to cope with these differences, what kind of emotions does he experience, is he lonely being different and will he ever feel like a part of this society which view’s him as different. These are the questions that the movie Alag aims to answer and portray.
The film begins with the death of a man, Hemant Rastogi who lives alone. On hearing the news of his death, the police are called upon. When the police begin to investigate further, they find something eerie and mysterious about the entire setting. The mystery is further heightened when neighbors claim that there was someone else also living in the flat with Rastogi. The police too find various clues about someone who was living their along with Rastogi, but no one else comes forth. People begin to speculate that there is a ghost living in the house.
Finally, the police find out that there is indeed another person who was living along with Hemant in his house. This is a young boy who has been hidden in the house and has not seen the outside world for eighteen years. This boy is none other than Rastogi’s son, Tejas (Akshay Kapoor). Nobody can fathom why this mysterious boy was confined within the four walls of the house; nobody knows why Rastogi would hide his own son from the world. What will now happen to Tejas who has no experience of the outside world?
The police decide to place Tejas in the care of Purva (Dia Mirza), who runs an institute for young orphans who have just stepped into a life of crime due to either circumstances or misfortune, but desire to change in life. Purva voluntarily agrees to help Tejas get a start on his new life. But Purva is also intrigued by Tejas and his different personality. Meanwhile Tejas is relishing and exploring the various facets of his newfound world. Earlier on, he lived his life through the innumerable books that he had read, while now he was experiencing the outside world first hand. He is slowly learning that life is not as simple as depicted in books, there are many facets to living in this new world. On the whole, he was learning that life in the outside world was full of many complexities.
Purva began observing the differences in Tejas, he looked different from others, and he acted in a different manner from others. She was amazed and awed by some of the different characteristics that she observed in Tejas. He had some wonderful and special powers that would shock the world. Tejas is a powerful young man, whose powers belied all logic and rationality of the normal world.
Is Tejas a person from outside this world, what is his true identity, where has he come from? What are these wonderful powers that lie with him? What will he do with these powers? Will he misuse them or will he use them for the good of mankind. Will society accept this ‘Alag’ man?
The film is the production foray of well-known photographer Subi Samuel into Hindi movies. The film deals with emotional relationships and is directed by Ashu Trikha. The film also stars Vinod Khanna, Mukesh Tiwari, Sharat Saxena and Tom Alter. The film is slated to release during the month of May. |
