Amitabh Bachchan is probably the biggest Superstar India has ever produced. He was born in Allahabad, on 11th October, 1942. He is the son of Hindi-Urdu poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bahchchan. He is well known for his incredible acting skills, his deep baritone voice and his humble nature.
He is nicknamed Big B, Munna and the Shahenshah of Bollywood. He went to Sherwood College, Nainital and has a double MA degree from Delhi University. Before becoming an actor, he has worked in Calcutta as an announcer for All India Radio, a stage actor and a freight company's executive. He debuted in the movie Saat Hindustani(1969) by K.A. Abbas. He has gone on to deliver hits like Deewar, Zanjeer(1972), Sholay(1975) with Dharmendra and Amjad Khan, Coolie, Bombay to Goa etc. His filmography is extensive with him playing double and triple roles in movies like Don (1978), Kasme Vaade(1978) an the Great Gambler(1979). The first award that he had won was for his supporting role in Anand, a movie by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. He has also done playback in movies like Silsila and more recently in Baghban(2003). He has a wax statue in Madame Tussaud's museum.
Amitabh Bachchan was very close to the Gandhi family and had been elected MP from Allahabad in 1985. But, owing to some financial misappropriation, he has to step down. He is known to be close friends with Samajwadi Party member Amar Singh.
Amitabh Bachchan has been married to Jaya Bachchan since 1973, and has 2 children with her- Abhishek and Shweta.
