Aamir Khan was born in Mumbai on 14th March 1965. He is the son of Tahir Hussain and Zeenat Hussain. His nickname is A.K.
Aamir started acting as a child actor in his uncle’s movie “Yaadon ki Baraat: in 1972 in a cameo. He gave up films to become the state champion of tennis. As an adult, he debuted with “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” in 1988, with Juhi Chawla, at the age of 23. The story is based on his own love story with his neighbour Reena whom he married at 21. Later on, he went on to deliver commercial hits like “Dil” with Madhuri Dixit in 1990, “Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahi” (1990), “Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander” in 1992, “Andaz Apna Apna” in 1994 etc. He refused Shahrukh Khan’s role “Rahul” in Darr(1992). His second movie, Raakh, was an art film which bagged him the Jury Special National Award.
In recent times, Lagaan(2001) with Asutosh Gowariker, which made it to the Oscars, Rang De Basanti(2006) with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Ghajini(2008) were his biggest hits. He turned director in 2007 with “Taare Zameen Par”, a movie on dyslexia. His last commercial hit was “3 Idiots” with Madhavan and Sharman Joshi. It was the most successful movie in Bollywood. He has his own production house.
Aamir is known as a perfectionist. He is inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s movies. Amir Khan was married to Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2001.He has 2 children with her. Then, he married his present wife, Kiran Rao in 2005.
